Smokeless Fire Pits — All the Fire, None of the Smoke
Smokeless fire pits use double-wall secondary combustion technology to burn off smoke and particulates before they escape — giving you a clean, hot fire without the eye-burning smoke of a traditional wood pit. We carry Solo Stove, the brand that pioneered the residential smokeless category.
How Smokeless Fire Pits Actually Work
Air enters the bottom of the pit, gets pre-heated as it travels up the double wall, and exits through ports at the top of the inner wall — re-igniting the smoke before it leaves the fire. The result: a near-smokeless burn with significantly more heat output than a single-wall pit of the same size.
Smokeless Fire Pit Sizes
- 14–17" — backyard ambiance, 2–4 people
- 19–23" — small gatherings, 4–6 people
- 27–30" — full-size backyard fire pit, 6–10 people
Best Use Cases
- Backyard: 19–23" stainless smokeless pit on a heat-resistant surface
- Camping / portable: 14–17" stainless model — wheels and lids available
- Wood deck: Use a heat shield base specifically rated for the model — most smokeless pits run hot enough to damage decking without one
Frequently Asked Questions
How do smokeless fire pits actually work?
Smokeless fire pits use double-wall secondary combustion. Air enters the bottom, pre-heats as it travels up the double wall, and exits through ports at the top of the inner wall — re-igniting smoke and particulates before they escape. Result: near-smokeless burn and significantly more heat output than a single-wall pit.
Are smokeless fire pits really smoke-free?
No — but they are dramatically less smoky than traditional wood pits. With dry seasoned wood, you get an almost completely smokeless burn once the secondary combustion engages. Wet or unseasoned wood will still smoke.
Do smokeless fire pits produce less heat?
Actually the opposite — secondary combustion means more complete burn, which means MORE heat per log than a single-wall pit. Smokeless pits also have great heat throw on the upper opening because air is being super-heated as it rises.
Can you cook on a smokeless fire pit?
Yes — most major brands (Solo Stove, Breeo) sell grill grates and accessories that fit over the pit opening. The high secondary combustion temperatures make for excellent searing.
Can smokeless fire pits be used on a wood deck?
Only with a manufacturer-recommended heat shield base. Smokeless pits run very hot (especially on the bottom) and can scorch or damage decking without proper protection.
