Buck builds four wood stove sizes in Spruce Pine, North Carolina, each sold as a freestanding stove or a fireplace insert, and two of them as zero-clearance built-ins for new construction. Pick by the space you need to heat, then decide catalytic or not: the Model 91 is the catalytic flagship for large homes (longest burns, highest efficiency, a combustor to maintain); the 81, 74 and 21 are non-catalytic, with secondary-burn tubes instead of a combustor, simpler to run and cheaper to maintain.

Freestanding, insert or zero-clearance? The freestanding stove sits on a hearth pad with its own chimney. The insert version of the same stove slides into an existing masonry fireplace (the product pages list the minimum fireplace opening). The 21ZC and 74ZC are zero-clearance units framed into a wall or chase with a Class A chimney, for homes with no fireplace.
