How big a room can an Empire wall furnace heat?
Sizing rule: 1 BTU per cubic foot of well-insulated space. A 20,000 BTU unit heats ~250 sq ft (2,500 cu ft, 10' ceiling). Increase capacity for high ceilings, drafty rooms, or cold climates.
Vent-free vs direct vent wall furnace?
Direct vent is safer (no combustion byproducts in the room) but requires through-wall installation. Vent-free is simpler but restricted in some states and not approved for bedrooms. For new installations, direct vent is the better choice.
