Bromic Heating 27" Tungsten Smart-Heat Portable Gas Heater

Friends of mine have this heater, so, I was able to experience it before buying it. And let me tell you, this heater is the absolute best! Stylish to look at it, and, boy does it crank out the heat. Instructions to put it together were very easy to follow. It is a but top heavy, so, be careful moving it around, especially if you have an uneven surface.

I really like this heater. There's plenty of heat, and you direct where you need it. (The mushroom heaters send 60% of their heat to places where nobody is sitting. Put it at the end of a long table and it heats the whole table. It's insanely expensive but does the job perfectly and looks great. I've had mine for about 2 years, and it's still going strong. Assembly isn't too hard. Lots of screws involved, so use a drill. I've dinged it a star because to install the deflector at the top, you need to loosen two screws, slot it in, then retighten, but one of those screws was torqued in so tightly that I couldn't loosen it. I tried an 18" torque wrench, my hammer driver, a manual hammer driver, and pretty much everything else I could think of. I eventually had to drill the thing out and put in a larger screw. A pain in the butt that I shouldn't have had to deal with. Didn't seem worth returning it for one screw, though.

This Bromic works superb, it does not go out in the wind, pretty quiet, it really warms a large area. It is pricey, but for all of the "other" outdoor heaters we have had over the years ( to only work for 2 or less years), it is well worth the extra money.

Product assembled very easy and completed in less than an hour. Product looks great. Compared to other propane patio heaters it puts out a lot of heat. Unfortunately the heater is very tall and the head cannot be directed downward enough to warm the backs of people sitting under the unit. The design result is that the heat is spread over a large area but the heat gain is pretty limited for everyone. I have a celling mount 6000 watt Bromic that provides a more focused, but much warmer sitting area.

I've owned this patio heater for more than a year and am very happy with it so far. Unlike the more traditional " mushroom " style standing propane heaters, it directs the heat into a specific direction -- more like its wall-mounted electric and gas brethren. That means it's more suitable to be placed at the edge of a table or patio umbrella without blasting heat into directions where nobody's sitting. On the flipside, if you're looking for a heater that stands at the center of a sitting arrangement, this design isn't a great choice. For my setup, I found it to provide ample heat in a focused direction in a much more attractive package. There's a catch, though. For whatever reason, Bromic provided the unit with a hollow base with an opening right at the center, underneath the place for the propane tank -- perhaps to fill the bottom with sand or concrete to add additional weight. Whatever the reason, it's not described in any manual or on their website and the heater certainly isn't too light or at risk of toppling over. What that does create, unfortunately, is a rather large false bottom that will fill with water when it rains. Even when using an optional cover to protect the heater from the elements, water will run down the side and pool in that empty space; and since the coating doesn't appear to extend to the inside of that space, it'll soon provide you with some nice rusty run-off. After I noticed water shlonking around in there, I drilled some drainage holes and covered the hole. That did the trick and I no longer have unsightly red stains on my patio. If you're okay with drilling holes or adding some duct tape on the inside of the unit, you'll find a reliable and well-designed heater with an attractive, premium look. Here's hoping Bromic will fix this oversight and vanquish water shlonkage for good.

Purchased for our covered patio in Colorado and I am very pleased with construction of the unit and how well it works. We have had mushroom heaters before and they are have very poor heat output and distributing compared to the Bromic design. The construction is very robust and I found the materials used to be quite nice and of high quality. As for other reviewer who commented on poorly tapped screw, I found them all to be perfect but will point out that the side panel screws are not tapped at all and use self tapping screws so you do need to be careful and apply plenty of pressure when installing the side panels. The only weakness I found in the design was that the strap to hold the tank in place is a bit week and does not work well but a simple bungee solves that problem.

I figured I'd try one of these instead of buying another crappy mushroom heater this year for my patio. This thing cranks out unbelievable heat! It is as powerful as probably 3 mushroom heaters, which is a good thing. I had to set it a little further back, even on low setting, but it covers a large area. You do not have to sit directly under it. It easily heated a picnic table with 8 of us sitting at it for a whole evening. I've had no trouble with rust, but I do cover it if I think it is going to rain. It's too nice!
